Here is a good bookshelf for every you steampunk lovers out there. Its a huge wall shelf and its design is in reality marvelous. The wooden shelves are related via brass and copper pipes in imitation of a few valves and pressure gauges in between. HANGING BOOKSHELVES

Don't hang a bookshelf with any old screws you have laying around. Using drywall screws, for instance, is a bad idea. Instead, get a good quality wood screw, such as those by GRK and Spax. The screw should be deep enough to go through the back or hanging rail (see below), the drywall or plaster, and about 1 inch into the wood stud.

Longer isn't necessarily better, though: The longer the screw you use, the more likely you can penetrate into a pipe or a wire. With that in mind, don't even think of using lags or deck construction screws. These are overkill and increase the chances of doing real damage.

Bookshelves, kitchen cabinets, and wall cabinets have a piece of wood that you're supposed to fasten through. Called a hanging rail, this horizontal piece greatly improves the load-bearing ability of the shelf. Ignore it at your peril.

If the shelf doesn't have a hanging rail, be sure that whatever you're fastening through is sturdily connected to the rest of the bookshelf. For example: If you fasten through a plywood back, but then find that the back is held on by a few skimpy staples, you probably want to add a few fasteners of your own to ensure the back doesn't separate from the shelf once it's loaded down with books.

Don't get us wrong: Fastening to a stud is still the gold standard. But a thick plaster wall can complicate matters, as can a wall with oddly-spaced studs, steel studs, or even no studs anywhere near where the book shelf is supposed to hang. If you find yourself in this position, then use a good quality hollow wall fastener. Since discovering them several years ago, we've become big fans of Toggler Alligator All-Purpose Wall Anchors, the company's Plastic Toggle and its famous SnapToggle

Even a short level—or using that level app on your phone—is better than no level at all. For a bookshelf up to 2-ft. long, I use a short torpedo level that I keep in my back pocket. Anything longer than that, I use a 2-ft. level.

There are several ways to ensure that the book shelf is level: • Mark a faint level line on the wall and hang the bookshelf even with that. • Drive one hanging screw through the bookshelf back or its hanging rail. Then level the bookshelf and drive a second screw.

• Combine methods A and B, if you're really fastidious. Don't stand on your couch or a chair—use a ladder or a step stool. A friend of mine, a contractor, did a customer a favor and quickly hopped up on a chair to hang a bookshelf. He fell backward and injured his back. Don't be like him!
